Add Barcode Operation

 

Touch > Product, Add Barcode (#508) and Barcode Entry (#538) POS Keys.

 

Description

 

Used to add a Barcode, using the String Product/PLU or Add Barcode POS Key, or to enter/scan a Barcode to retrieve a Product at the SwiftPOS Touch terminal.

 

To Be Considered

 

  1. This feature does not work when:


    1. Products that do not exist in the SwiftPOS Back Office, ie. adding a Barcode to new Products.
    2. The Barcode scanned is already assigned to another Product.


  1. Given this feature can only be used during a sale at the SwiftPOS Touch terminal, and if it is being used to only add Barcodes (and not to sell Products as well), then make sure all items are credited to reverse the sale of the Products for which the Barcodes were added. This will ensure SOH levels remain the same.

 


Pre-Requisites

 

  1. Create a Add Barcode POS Key. This can be done by ensuring a Product POS Key, linked to the System PLU 19994 @BARCODE is added to the appropriate Layout using the Keyboard Designer. Also ensure the String PLU setting is selected for this Barcode System PLU. This will enable the entering of a Barcode.
  2. Ensure the Add Barcode & Barcode Entry POS Keys are added to the appropriate Layout using the Keyboard Designer.

 


Operation

 

  1. How to add a Barcode to a Product using the Add Barcode Product POS Key
     

When scanning a Product's Barcode at the SwiftPOS Touch terminal, in order to sell the Product, a message may be displayed warning that the PLU/Barcode was not found. This means that the Barcode scanned is not recorded against an existing Product in the SwiftPOS Back Office. Using the Search button search for the Product scanned.

 

  1. At the SwiftPOS Touch terminal, select the Product for which a Barcode is to be added.
  2. The Product will appear in the sales grid.
  3. Select the Add Barcode POS Key created above.
  4. A prompt will be displayed enabling the entry of the Barcode. Scan the same Product again. The Product's Barcode should now appear in the text field. Select Done.
  5. The Barcode scanned will now appear under the Product in the sales grid.
  6. Complete and Finalise the sale.
  7. Once the sale is processed in the SwiftPOS Back Office, the Barcode will be recorded against the same Product in the SwiftPOS Back Office, ensuring that in the future when scanning the same Product again at the SwiftPOS Touch terminal, the Barcode being found. Note : All SwiftPOS Touch terminals will be updated with the new Barcode  based on the update interval set here.

 

  1. How to add a Barcode to a Product using the Add Barcode POS Key
     
  1. At the SwiftPOS Touch terminal, select the Add Barcode POS Key.
  2. The Products search screen will be displayed.
  3. Select a Product.
  4. A Enter or Scan Barcode prompt will be displayed.
  5. Enter or scan the Product's Barcode.
  6. The Barcode will be validated and added to the Product if it does NOT already exist.
  7. A prompt similar to the following will be displayed if successful:
     

 

  1. How to Retrieve a Product using a Barcode
     
  1. At the SwiftPOS Touch terminal, either:
  2. Scan the Barcode and if it is found the Product will be added to the sales grid.

 

OR

  1. Select the Barcode Entry POS Key.
  2. The Products search screen will be displayed.
  3. Select a Product.
  4. A Enter Barcode prompt will be displayed.
  5. Enter the Product's Barcode.
  6. The Product will be added to the sales grid, if the Barcode is found.
