Menu Options
All the Promotional Advertising that is created, is saved inside the SwiftPOS Database. If you create Advertising on one computer and then open up an existing promotion on a different screen, you will find that you may not have the reference to the local drive for the source images. Either store them on a shared network drive so others can edit them or always work from the same PC. If you add more graphics or change the graphics in a folder, you will need to open up the Advertising option and save the new graphics, otherwise they will not be sent to the SwiftPOS Touch terminals.

Technical Information
Video (MP4) File Names
The names given to Video (MP4) files must not exceed 24 characters in length.
Video (MP4) File Folders
To ensure Video (MP4) Advertising is displayed at SwiftPOS Touch terminals, Video (MP4) files must be located in the following folders dependent on the Type of Advertising. These are the folders from which Video (MP4) files will be sourced when a Full Update is sent to the SwiftPOS Touch terminals. Note : The names of Video (MP4) files must not exceed 24 characters.
Types of Advertising |
Default Folder |
Main Advertising - Displayed in the Customer Facing Display main window. |
C:\SwiftPOSTouch\Folders\Flash Media\Main Advertising |
Journal Advertising - Displayed in Journal Advertising Window of the Customer Facing Display. |
C:\SwiftPOSTouch\Folders\Flash Media\Journal Advertising |
Secondary Journal Advertising - Displayed in the Secondary Journal Advertising Window of the Customer Facing Display. |
C:\SwiftPOSTouch\Folders\Flash Media\Secondary Journal Advertising |
Sales Grid Advertising - Displayed at SwiftPOS Touch terminal to Clerks/Staff in the sales grid. |
C:\SwiftPOSTouch\Folders\Flash Media\Sales Grid |
Note : The above folders can be deleted by deleting the parent folder C:\SwiftPOSTouch\Folders\Flash Media. Before doing this, make sure the SwiftPOS Touch terminals are switched off. Deleting the parent folder will ensure that all old Video (MP4) files are removed. Restart and send a Full Update to all the SwiftPOS Touch terminals. This will result in the above folders being recreated and populated with only the current Video (MP4) files as configured above.

Note : Any other sized graphics will stay in proportion but these are the actual sizes.
When creating Advertising Image/Video (MP4) files, ensure they do not consume too much memory or CPU when in use at the SwiftPOS Touch terminal. Because SwiftPOS Touch terminals do not have dedicated graphics controller cards, they do not perform as well when Advertising Image/Video (MP4) files contain lots of animation or video content.
When the Customer Facing Display Main Advertising screen is loaded the CFD Journal Advertising is also loaded, but is not visible. This means that potentially 3 different Advertising Image/Video (MP4) files may be playing at the same time and may result in the very slow switch from the Main Advertising screen to the Journal screen when a sale is initiated. In such cases, we recommend that a background image with text is used rather than a Video (MP4) file, to ensure improved performance at the SwiftPOS Touch terminal.
File Locations
Sites with a Head Office and with more than 1 person/login producing Advertising, then it is recommended to have a centrally shared folder that all those users that produce Advertising, have access to users have a central shared folder for storing the Advertising that is to be added to the Point of sale systems.
For Example :
- On the PC that hosts the SwiftPOS Back Office, create a folder called SwiftPOS Advertising and ensure it is shared.
- All users that produce Advertising should save their Video (MP4) files in this folder.
- Then using this menu item add the Video (MP4) files to the appropriated Advertising Media Types.
Support Issues
When testing Advertising and the Video (MP4) files do not display, then restart SwiftPOS Touch terminal so that it re-reads the folder and checks for valid Advertising files.
Windows 8 & Server 2012
There is a Feature labelled "Desktop Experience" under "User Interfaces and Infrastructure" that is not checked by default. Check that box and the server will restart twice. Once that is complete, then Video (MP4) files will appear.
