Cash Drawer Settings

Touch > Tools > Basic Tools > Terminal Settings > Peripheral List > Cash Drawer > Edit

Description

This menu item is used to configure the settings for Cash Drawers at the SwiftPOS Touch terminal.

To Be Considered

  1. Even though the Cash Drawer is connected to the Cash Drawer port on the back of the printer, the Cash Drawer is controlled independently from the Printer.
  2. Note : Unfortunately, there is no industry standard when it comes to commands to open Cash Drawers and Memory addresses across different Cash Drawer brands and/or models.

Pre-Requisites

  1. If no Cash Drawer exists in the list of Peripherals, then it will need to be added.

Cash Drawer Reader Settings

This screen is accessed from here.

  • Cash Drawer Type - Select from the drop down list one of the following:

  • Receipt Printer - See below.
  • RS232 Comms Port - Select to enable the Settings button, to open the RS232 Settings screen and configure.
  • Preset Hardware - See below.

  • Command - Select the Keyboard icon to enter a command to open the Cash Drawer.
  • Drawer # - The drawer number the device is connected to and are numbers from 1 to 4.
  • Test Open - Select to test the opening of the Cash Drawer.
  • Test Status - Select to test the status of the Cash Drawer.

Note : For a SwiftPOS Touch terminal that is connected to a Com Port, then use a command line option to open the Cash Drawer like below. From a Command Prompt: Echo A > COM5<enter> will send a character "A" out to a Com Port.

Receipt Printer

This is the default option where the command to open the Cash Drawer is sent to the Receipt printer. The communications port must be enabled for this to work even though the default printing mode may have the receipt switched off. For a Cash Drawer that is connected to an Epson or compatible Printer the command to open the Cash Drawer is \1B\70\30\3C\78\00. Note : The "Open Cash Drawer" command cannot be used in the Windows printer driver because it would only open the Cash Drawer when you print a Receipt and if you have multiple Cash Drawers installed then it would still not work.

The HEX Values to open the Cash Drawer from a HP Printer, according to the HP manual are listed here.

  • \1B\70\0\8\8 ??? for Cash Drawer 1
  • \1B\70\1\8\8 ??? for Cash Drawer 2

Use the Windows Calculator to convert Decimal values to Hex.

Preset Hardware

Note : The Javelin interface is the same as the NCR RealPOS 21 SwiftPOS Touch terminal.

This option is for Preset Settings for Port 1 for Javelin, Posiflex, Glaive II, EBN, Toshiba TEC (ST -A10) & (WillPOS-20). Below are the supported brands and model numbers where custom commands are required to open the Cash Drawer. Other brands are normally supported by OPOS.
