Kitchen/Order and KVS Categories

Description

SwiftPOS Touch Peripheral Printers/KVSs (Kitchen Video Systems) make use of Categories setup in the SwiftPOS Back Office to determine when printing/displaying is triggered, based on the items in a sale.

The following provides a graphic representation of a possible configuration that includes KVSs and Printers that make use of Category Printing.

To Be Considered

  1. It is recommended to reduce the number of Categories down as much as possible for ease of management. The following is an example of the Categories for a small site:

    1. Entree
    2. Mains
    3. Desserts
    4. Tea/Coffee
    5. Instructions
    6. Sauces
    7. Sides
    8. Beverage
    9. GST Free
    10. Admin

  1. Note : It is generally recommended NOT to select Instructional Categories, as these automatically print after the parent item is printed. However, the only exception to this would be for a site that has a single KVS printer. In this instance is does not matter if an Instructional Category is selected. In contrast, for a site that has multiple printers and then Instructional Categories are added to all printers, then every time a Coffee instruction prints to the Barista Printer, it will also print on the other printers, for example the Kitchen printer. The printing order is in ascending order of the number assigned to the Print Group.

This screen is used to select Categories and assign them to kVSs and/or Printers.

  • Add All - Select to add all Categories from the Category List and move them to the Selected Categories List.

For Trigger Categories information ...

  • Remove All Triggers - Select to ensure all Triggers are deselected.

Trigger Categories

Only items sold in the trigger Categories will activate sending to the Printer/KVS - What this means is that if you have a Kitchen Printer set up just to print Pizza orders, whenever there is a pizza ordered, it will also print on the other printers that there is a Pizza to go with the order. This helps the wait staff to know that there are other items to go out to the table with that order, not just the food prepared on that printer. The Triggered items print in normal sized print as these items are not being prepared by the Chef off this docket. See example below.

Example 1

  1. Kitchen Printer (Main Kitchen)

  1. Pizza Printer (Pizza Bar)

If you had two printers installed as per the above example, the Pizza Bar printer would only include the items from the Main Kitchen if they were included in the same order.

Example 2

  1. Barista Printer

  1. Cake Printer

If you had two printers installed as per the above example, then only when a Customer orders a Coffee and a Cake, does the associated items print on both printers.
