Back Office >Products > Product Records > Product Full Edit > Barcodes button
Description
This feature is used to add Barcode numbers to Products. Products purchased from Suppliers that have valid Barcodes, can be added/assigned to the Product in SwiftPOS Back Office using this feature. When the Product's Barcode is then scanned at the SwiftPOS Touch terminal or PDE, the Product will automatically be recognised. Products that do not have valid Barcodes can be assigned any unique number and then used to create Product Labels.
Bar Codes are normally 8-13 digits in length. When you scan a Barcode at the SwiftPOS Touch terminal, it searches for a matching PLU number followed a search of a matching Barcode. If you are going to use Barcodes with the same numbers as the PLU number, the Barcode must be for the Product that has that PLU number. If you want to scan PLU numbers then simply make up Barcodes using the PLU field.
**Warning** Do NOT make barcodes that are less than 6 digits because these can get confused with PLU numbers that might be linked to other products. If you had one product with a PLU of 123456 and another product with a barcode of 123456 than it is likely that you could accidentally sell or transfer the wrong product.
