Software Licences

 

SwiftPOS Software Licences available are as follows:

 

  1. SwiftPOS Software Licence
  2. SwiftPOS Software Enhancement (Maintenance Licence)

 

In the world of computers it is not uncommon to replace your computer hardware after a number of years to take advantage of new, faster technology or greater reliability and storage capacity. Computer software is also being constantly upgraded all the time to meet customer's requirements or to be able to do the same things quicker and more efficiently to reduce labour costs. Software updates can be in the form of new versions that come out every few years, (like Microsoft Office 2010, 2013 and 2016) or a constant release cycle of the same product with new features being added on a monthly basis. The SwiftPOS Software is a single version that is being constantly enhanced on a monthly basis.

 


SwiftPOS Software Licence

 

Initially, Customers will purchase a SwiftPOS Software Licence. This licence will entitle Customers, lifetime use of the software. Also, the initial purchase of a SwiftPOS Software Licence, usually includes 12 months free access to new software features/enhancements. On expiration of that 12 month period, Customers will have to purchase a Software Enhancement (Maintenance) Licence to ensure access to any new features/enhancements developed and released after the expiration date.

 

Note : A purchase of a Software Licence does not include any installation and support costs provided by the Resellers.

 


SwiftPOS Enhancement Licence (Maintenance Licence)

 

The purchase of a Software Enhancement Licence entitles Customers free access to any new features/enhancements made available over a 12 month period. Any new features/enhancements developed and released after the Software Enhancement expiration date will not be available.

 

Benefits of the SwiftPOS Software Enhancement (Maintenance) Licence

 

  • Free software upgrades and maintenance releases. This excludes any installation and support costs that are provided by the Reseller.
  • New features and enhancements to existing features.
  • Updated versions of the on-line help and training material that explain the latest features.
  • Get helpful tips and techniques on features in the software.
  • Support for any changes in your Windows software environment (like Windows 10 etc.)
  • Ensure compatibility with other software that is installed on your computer.
  • Update any compliance with Government legislation. E.g. How GST is dealt with on bonus stock from Suppliers.
  • Ensure compatibility with POS hardware changes that may occur including Tablets.
  • Ensure compatibility with label printers, Barcode scanners and data input devices that may change over time.
  • Correct any software defects and deficiencies that have only become apparent during field usage.
  • Quicker support from the helpdesk when you are running the current version of software. Some older versions of SwiftPOS are no longer supported.
  • Ensure compatibility with newer versions of integrated Accounting software.
  • Take advantage of new features as they become available to maintain your competitive advantage in the market place. Software features are under continued development to provide customers with powerful marketing tools to increase their business.

Any customer with a current Software Licence (ie. not expired) can update to the current release of the software.

Example

 

A Customer purchases a SwiftPOS Software Licence in May 2014. This purchase includes 12 months free access to any new features/enhancements (R&D) developed and released within that 12 month period. Their SwiftPOS Software Enhancement (Maintenance) Licence's expiration date will be set to May 2015.

 

A new feature/enhancement is released in June 2015.

 

The same Customer will not be able to access that feature.

 

 

Once they renew their Software Enhancement (Maintenance) Licence on their existing registered software modules, etc. Only then will they have access to the new features/enhancements.

 

Reseller Support Guidelines

 

Point of Sale installations can have many issues that can affect the operation of the POS software. Some of these issues may relate to existing products that the SwiftPOS Reseller did not supply.

 

  • Cat 5 data cabling - can be affected with moisture getting inside the connecting cables and plugs. We have seen sites where Coke has run down the data cable and into the data socket causing corrosion on the connecter and an intermittent connection.
  • Power to the Point of Sale terminals - We have seen sites where fridges/ice making machines are on the same circuit as the POS and power spikes can cause malfunctions at the SwiftPOS Touch terminal.
  • Windows operating system updates - These can affect the operation of the POS software and we recommend disabling the windows automatic updates so that it does not affect daily operation when Microsoft release patches on the second Tuesday of each month. These updates can be run manually at a time that is less critical to daily operation.
  • Routers - We have seen sites where they have had two DHCP servers enabled and a DNS server pointing to Google. As soon as the internet goes down the SwiftPOS Touch terminals cannot connect to the host PC in the office for Table Tracking balances.
  • Mix of Windows operating systems, Windows Server security and other issues with network switches etc.
  • Network TCP/IP Kitchen Printers that have a fixed IP on a sub-net that needs to be visible to all other SwiftPOS Touch terminals.

 

Our Resellers strive to assist Customers and ensure a successful and reliable installation of SwiftPOS. Given the complexity of issues that can cause operations to be interrupted occasionally, it is very much appreciated when a level of appreciation, on part of Customers, is displayed when it comes to troubleshooting and resolving these complex issues.

 

It is always the aim of both our Resellers and SwiftPOS Support staff to ensure when any issues arise that may impact the day to day operations of our Customers, these issues are resolved and expedited as quickly as possible.
