Priced Barcodes Overview
A priced Barcode is a Barcode which not only defines WHAT an item is but also the PRICE it is to be sold for. Normal Barcodes only identify the item.
An example is:
- 0270008003031
In this case the "02" identifies it as a priced Barcode.
The "70008" identifies the Product
The "0" is the check digit.
The "0303" specifies a price of $3.03.
The final digit is a check digit which allows the scanner to verify that it has correctly read the Barcode.
Both of these codes identify the same Product, just different amounts of it.
Examples of Products which use priced Barcodes are;
- Pre-packed meat.
- Pre-packed fruit and veg.
- Deli goods sold in a supermarket with Barcode printing scales.
"02" and "20" Barcode Support
The SwiftPOS Touch terminals automatically recognise and interpret Barcodes that start with the numbers 02 or 20.
These Barcodes are typically used with goods that are weighed and a specific Barcode label printed indicating the PLU number and the price. Typical applications of the 02 code are in delicatessens and grocery stores, while the 20 code is typically used in wholesale applications. The quantity is always selected as 1 and the price of the relevant PLU must be set to open. Format is as follows:
