Buy a Gift Card/Voucher and purchase items using the Gift Card/Voucher

 

The following is an example of the use of a Voucher to issue and redeem Gift Cards/Vouchers.

 


The Scenario

 

A customer purchases a Gift Card/Voucher for a specified value. The Gift Card/Voucher is issued and then able to be redeemed over multiple sales buy anyone presenting the card at the checkout.

Gift Cards/Vouchers can be issued as a:

 

  1. Plastic Gift Card with magnetic strip.
  2. Printed Gift Voucher with a Barcode.

 


The Setup Required

 

  1. If using plastic Gift Cards then ensure a RF Reader has been setup at the SwiftPOS Touch terminal to enable the reading of the plastic Gift Card on redemption.
  2. If using printed Gift Vouchers with a Barcode then ensure a Barcode scanner has been setup at the SwiftPOS Touch terminal to enable the scanning of the Barcode on redemption of the Gift Voucher.
  3. Both the above can be setup if required.
  4. At a minimum ensure the following POS Keys are available at the SwiftPOS Touch terminal:
     
  1. Activate Gift Card
  2. Stored Value Charge
  3. Voucher Entry
  4. Voucher Info


Other related keys that maybe helpful are:

  1. Stored Value Top Up - To Top Up a Gift Card/Voucher.


  1. Create a Voucher Layout for the Gift Voucher that the customer is required to present at the checkout. For plastic Gift Cards a Voucher Layout will still need to be created. At a minimum it is suggested to use the default layout by selecting the Defaults button.
     


  1. Create a Voucher Action to be taken at the time the Voucher is redeemed.
     

 

Note : The Stored Value is set to $0.00 as this will be determined at the SwiftPOS Touch terminal at the time the sale of the Gift Card/Voucher is made. Refer to Operation.


  1. Create Voucher Parameters to control the issuing and redemption of the Gift Card/Voucher.
     

 

Note : The Issue Type above is set to disabled, as the printing of the Voucher will be triggered from the SwiftPOS Touch terminals.

Also, if using printed Gift Vouchers check the Reprint Stored Value Voucher check box.


  1. Assign the action created above.
     

 


Operation

 

  1. Using a plastic Gift Card

 

  1. At the SwiftPOS Touch terminal sell a Gift Card as follows:

 

  1. Ensure a RF Reader has been setup at the SwiftPOS Touch terminal.
  2. Ensure the Reprint Voucher check box is unchecked and a full update is sent to all SwiftPOS Touch terminals.
  3. Select the Activate Gift Card key.
  4. From the Vouchers listed select the Gift Card Voucher created above.
  5. When the Enter the text you wish to map to this Voucher dialog is displayed swipe the Gift Card across the RF Reader. This will ensure the card number is mapped to the Voucher number being issued. A Voucher Mapping entry will be created in the SwiftPOS Back Office.
  6. When the Top Up Value dialog is displayed, enter the purchase value of the Gift Card. For example :
     

 

Entering a value of 50.00 will result in $50 being stored against the Gift Card. See sample below.


  1. Finalise the sale. A receipt will be printed.


  1. At the SwiftPOS Touch terminal sell an item and redeem the presented Gift Card as follows:

 

  1. Sell an item.
  2. Select the Voucher Entry key and swipe the Gift Card across the RF Reader. The current balance of the Gift Card will appear in the sales grid.
  3. Swipe the Gift Card using the RF Reader.
  4. Select the Stored Value Charge key. The following message is displayed if there is still a balance remaining on the Gift Card:
     


  1. Return the Gift Card to the customer.


  1. Using a printed Gift Voucher

 

  1. At the SwiftPOS Touch terminal sell a Gift Voucher as follows:

 

  1. Ensure the Barcode scanner has been setup at the SwiftPOS Touch terminal.
  2. Ensure the Reprint Voucher check box is checked and a full update is sent to all SwiftPOS Touch terminals.
  3. Select the Activate Gift Card key.
  4. From the Vouchers listed select the Gift Card Voucher created above.
  5. When the Enter the text you wish to map to this Voucher dialog is displayed select Esc (Escape). This is not required for a Gift Voucher as it already has a Barcode.
  6. When the Top Up Value dialog is displayed, enter the purchase value of the Gift Voucher. For example :
     

 

Entering a value of 50.00 will result in $50 being stored against the Gift Card. See sample below.


  1. Finalise the sale. A receipt and printed Gift Voucher will be printed.


  1. At the SwiftPOS Touch terminal sell an item and redeem the presented Gift Voucher as follows:

 

  1. Sell an item.
  2. Scan the Gift Voucher using the Barcode scanner. The current balance of the Gift Voucher will appear in the sales grid.
  3. Select the Stored Value Charge key. The following messages maybe displayed :

 

  1. When the purchase value is less than the value of the Gift Voucher and therefore, a balance remains on the Gift Voucher:
     

 

Note: The text (reprint) only appears when the Reprint Voucher check box is checked.

 

  1. When the purchase value is greater than the remaining value of the Gift Voucher and therefore the balance must be tendered using another media:
     


  1. Give the customer the reprinted Gift Voucher with the new balance displayed.



Notes

 

  1. The Gift Card/Voucher can be used multiple times until the remaining balance (stored value) is depleted. Also, it can be redeemed by anyone who presents it at the checkout.
