String/Text PLU Operation

Description

 

This feature enables the entering of textual information as well as adding Barcodes at the SwiftPOS Touch terminal. Textual information commonly entered is for example, custom cooking instructions, post codes, serial numbers, etc. To make use of this feature String Product/PLUs will need to be created in the SwiftPOS Back Office.

 

Textual information entered by making use of String Product/PLUs, can also be used to search for Sale Transactions in the SwiftPOS Back Office. For example, this feature can be used to search Sale Transactions by the following:

 

  1. Cooking Instructions
  2. Name
  3. Phone Number
  4. Serial Number
  5. Customer delivery details
  6. Voucher Number
  7. Postcode

 

To Be Considered

 

  1. It is now mandatory that text be entered whenever a String Product/PLU is added to a sale.
  2. If required, a String Product/PLU can also be configured to ensure a prompt is displayed to enable the entry of a price at the time of selling. For more information ...
  3. String Product/PLUs can be displayed/printed in the same way as cooking instructions appear in the sales grid and on Receipts. This can be done by ensuring the String Product/PLU is assigned to an Instructional Category. This will ensure that the textual information entered as a result of the String Product/PLU prompt will be linked to the last item sold and appear indented in displays and print outs.
  4. Setting up a String Product/PLU is also useful for checking what is encoded on Magnetic Cards.
  5. A maximum length of up to 30 characters can be entered when prompted for textual information.

 

Pre-Requisites

 

  1. Use the pre-defined Comments (PLU 19995) or ensure a String Product/PLU is created in the SwiftPOS Back Office. This is done by:


    1. In SwiftPOS Back Office > Products > Product Records, create a Product by selecting the New button.
    2. Ensure the PLU number assigned to the String Product/PLU created in the step above is not a System PLU.
    3. Give the String Product/PLU an appropriate Description. Note : The Description is what will appear in the heading of the popup window, prompting the entry of textual information.

  1. Ensure a Product POS Key, linked to the String Product/PLU created in the step above, is added to the appropriate Layout using the Keyboard Designer.

 

Operation

 

  1. At the SwiftPOS Touch terminal, select the String Product/PLU Product POS Key.
  2. A prompt will be displayed enabling the entry of textual information. Enter the text required.
  3. This will now appear in the sales grid and on Receipts.

 

Cooking Instructions

 

There is a pre-defined System PLU 19995 @COMMENTS or create a new PLU. You can change this to be called Free Text, Open Instruction etc. This should marked as String PLU in the Product Full Edit screen with a Price of $0.00. The Product should be placed in your Instructions Category so that it will Link to the previously sold item. Then place on your Keyboard Layout as a Product POS Key.
